Stroll down memory lane. With over 130 years of stories to tell, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is rich in history.
The first suspension bridge, constructed back in 1889, was made out of hemp rope and cedar planks.
In 1956 new owner Rae Mitchell replaced the old cables after many years of faithful service. The job was accomplished over a span of just five days using thick steel cables anchored to 13 tons of concrete at each end.
It's true, the current owner of the park started working here at age eight selling ice cream. Eventually, Nancy Stibbard bought the park from her father and made this world-loved attraction what it is today.
Early adventurers who made the long “tramp” to the Capilano Suspension Bridge earned the name Capilano Tramps. Get a selfie with the Tramps before you enter the Story Centre, where life-size photomurals, artifacts, antiques and displays chronicle the early days of the bridge and its place in Vancouver history.
