  • April 5, 2023 – Capilano Suspension Bridge Park donates $40,000 to BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund

North Vancouver, BC – Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is pleased to announce a $40,000 donation to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund following a successful Canyon Lights season. A longtime supporter of the fire fighters’ charity, this donation crosses an incredible milestone of more than $450,000 donated to the Burn Fund through Canyon Lights.

This year marks the single largest donation raised for the Burn Fund through the holiday event. Funds were collected through partial proceeds from admissions and through public donations. Capilano also welcomed the District of North Vancouver Fire Fighters Charitable Society to the event every weekend to collect donations on behalf of the Burn Fund, resulting in an additional $6,000 raised. Admissions also help Capilano continue to host the Twelve Nights of Christmas, offering passes to various charities including the Burn Fund. Every year burn survivors look forward to bringing their families to Canyon Lights to take in the unforgettable holiday light experience.

“On behalf of fire fighters across the province, thank you to Nancy Stibbard and the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park team for their incredible generosity. The last three years have been a challenging time for most charities and the Burn Fund is no different. This donation offers our programs the boost we need so that we can continue supporting burn survivors across BC and the Yukon year-round. Nancy and her staff have always stuck by us and we are so grateful for the Capilano Group’s longtime support,” says Jeff Sauve, Executive Director of the Burn Fund.

In 2007, Stibbard and her team responded to an urgent need to help the Burn Fund. Mutual circumstances brought the two organizations together, with severe winter storms causing a 46-ton tree to fall on the Capilano Suspension Bridge, closing the Park for five months. In Stanley Park, the storms caused major damage to Bright Nights, the Burn Fund’s single largest fundraising event which supports burn survivor programs.

Stibbard, the owner and CEO of the Capilano Group, reached out to help the Burn Fund with the idea of creating a fundraiser to replenish lost donations from the annual holiday event at the re-opening of Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Since then, the Capilano Group has donated more than $550,000 and hundreds of hours of time to the Burn Fund.
