“The Tree of Life”: First Nations Studies program

 

Join a Capilano Educational staff member to share in stories of totem poles, explore First Nations regalia and art and visit the Little Big House to learn about the importance of the Western Red Cedar to coastal First Nations.

 

“The Tree of Life” includes 75 - 115 minutes of instructional time and hands-on activities, as well as a shortened tailored history and free time for your class to explore all areas of the park. Program is offered as a primary or intermediate format.

 

Grades 1-3

While in the park your students will:

ü      Experience traditional First Nations songs and dances

ü      Participated in a guided tour focusing on the First Nations aspects of the park and the importance of the Red Cedar

ü      Identify First Nations groups and areas

ü      Create your own story pole

ü      Option: book a nature tour

 

Grades 4-7

While in the park your students will:

ü      Experience traditional First Nations songs and dances

ü      Participated in a guided tour focusing on the First Nations aspects of the park and the importance of the Red Cedar

ü      Identify First Nations groups and areas

ü      Explore the Story Pole Park and Little Big House to learn about First Nations art

ü      Participate in traditional weaving

ü      Option: book a nature tour
